Thursday, 11/21/2013 - Critical Design Review Preparations

Design groups are currently working on solidifying models in preparation of our Critical Design Review with NASA on December 4th. With Thanksgiving approaching, we are getting hungry for turkey, but are staying focused on perfecting our presentation.

At the NASA Preliminary Design Review on November 7th, the team presented our current notional design. Everyone did a great job presenting their topics which included: updated subsystem designs, schedules, budget and outreach. It was very beneficial having design questions answered by NASA staff from across the country.

Team members have been using the MakerBot Replicator 2 to further understand the basic mechanics of 3D printing. In addition, we have been testing various print fabrics for a foldable print table. Check out this awesome time lapse video of the MakerBot building a 3D model of city landscape!

Wednesday, 9/18/2013 - Working Hard for Epic Outreach

With the EPIC Outreach event scheduled for Thursday, Sept 19th, we are working hard to produce 3D printed parts, 3D models, detailed concepts, and even a media video containing useful input from all the members of the team.

This is going to be an exciting opportunity for the group to showcase a lot of the work we have done and get some great feedback on where we stand currently. It’ll also be a great opportunity for people who know little to nothing about 3D printing and the expansive options open to those daring enough to explore to learn how these techniques work and the skill and dedication that goes into designing them.

If you are in the area, check out our booth, combined the Badger X-LOFT group, competitors from the X-Hab Competition two years prior.  They will be there showcasing much of their previous design including parts from the original prototype and available to answer your questions.  We are also thankful to have three of our dedicated members, Reid Carlson, Ryan Knippel, and Steve Wishau there to help showcase the Badger COMET project and answer questions you may have as well.  It’s bound to be a great time, so check us out!
